Titan Robotics' 3D printed props on stage at RAPID + TCT.
If you were in attendance at the RAPID + TCT keynote sessions in Fort Worth last week, you will have spotted a number of large-scale 3D printed hexagons on stage in the form of a lectern and backdrop display - if you were not, catch up with our by-the-minute blog here. The novel props were put together by Go West Creative and printed by Titan Robotics which showcased its new Pellet Extrusion 3D printing technology and "lightning fast" 3D printer.
Titan Robotics showcased its direct pellet fed 3D printing on the Atlas in a heated enclosure which allows printing with a wider range of materials including soft, rubberlike materials up to high performance materials, including 50% glass filled nylon and 50% carbon fibre filled PEI.
The Colorado-based company also debuted a new, fully Yaskawa servo controlled 3D printer which promises printing at speeds reaching up to 5Gs acceleration. Taking inspiration from the world of automated industrial machinery and teaming up with motion control experts, Yaskawa America, the system combines Titan's expertise in large-format 3D printing technology with Yaskawa's servo systems and machine controllers.
"We're really focused on having an accurate, robust machine that can do big parts really quickly and reliably, over and over again," Clay Guillory, Titan founder and CEO, explained. "Our customers want something they can trust…they can't afford to waste two weeks of print time on a really large, mission critical part."
"I think this is a sign that we're seeing the industry rise to the next stage in its development," Kevin Barker, Director of Sales for Yaskawa's Motion division added. "We're seeing companies like Titan enter the top tier of the business. More of the producers who started at the hobbyist end of the industry are stepping up to create products that outperform the high-cost competitors who once set the standard in this technology."
