Kipling's 3D printed bag
The fashion brand Kipling has always been known for their fun and functional ethos. Named after one of Britain’s most celebrated writers (not the baker) the brand takes its logo and mascot from perhaps Rudyard’s most famous work of fiction ‘The Jungle Book’.
The monkey of the Kipling logo is synonymous with the brand and the mascot is part of the lives of over 35 millions women across the globe. As a brand, Kipling is known for innovation whether that be in fabrics or treatments and their latest development is something brand new, 3D Printing.
As part of their spring Monkey Madness collection the Belgian firm have 3D printed a bag. The Monkey Madness City Jungle Shopper is fully 3D printed apart from the logo and the fabric handle.
The design is a mesh of the famous Kipling monkeys – hence Monkey Madness – held together by branches. The design would only have been possible with 3D printing and in the video above Kipling show us the SLA process the design went through.
The multi-functional bag is one of a kind, no other fashion houses are using the technology as an end manufacturing process to create fully functional handbags. It will be interesting to see whether any of the other major labels follow suit.
The bag will be available in the second quarter but if you are thinking about buying one make sure there’s nothing embarrassing in your bag!
