For the final leg of his US tour Prince Harry was joined by Prime Minister David Cameron to publicise British trade in New York City. After stepping off a state-of-the-art (albeit typically 15 minutes late) London buses for the main event the Royal and the PM were confronted by some very familiar faces…
MakieLab’s co-founder Jo Roach present Mr Cameron and Prince Harry with their very own customised 3D printed doll. Much to the amusement of the pair, Harry’s doll was dressed in his British Army attire whilst David Cameron’s was clutching the Chancellor’s budget box.
MakieLab the only UK tech company hand-picked to represent Business is GREAT in the GREAT showcase, which featured the best of British tech innovation. Jo Roach was delighted to present the dolls –created on the iPad app- to the Prince and the PM as she told the Daily Mail, 'Mr Cameron thought his hair was brushed more forward than usual. I told him that we were trying to modernise him and he said he would take that on board.'
Although Makies are a distinctly British innovation, half of the company’s revenue now comes from the US and the market there is expanding on a daily basis.
The toys, which were the first 3D printed toys to receive CE certification earlier in the year, can be created on the Makies Doll Factory iPad app or over at the website. Users create the dolls to their liking and they are then printed and dressed by hand before shipping.
