3D printing material developer, colorFabb has released its latest co-polyester-based filament ahead of its appearance at TCT Show next week.
The filament, nGen_LUX has been launched after years of work, and is based on the company’s previous nGen product which came to market around two years ago. Made with Eastman Amphora AM3300, the nGen is colorFabb’s best-selling filament to date. Thus, the subsequent nGen_LUX has resulted in a significant spate of excitement for the company.
It features diffuse reflection, which sees light shining on the printed part scatter to many directions, ensuring the surface of the part is aesthetically impressive. Moreover, parts manufactured with nGen_LUX don’t require post-processing, a step forward from colorFabb’s metal filled filaments – bronzeFill, copperFill, steelFill and brassFill – which can produce parts that have a distinctive non-printed look, but do require post processing.

“At colorFabb we are always looking to meet our customers’ needs and offer filaments with added value,” a company press release read. “The aesthetics of nGen_LUX allow for a new step in production and prototyping, especially for cosmetics, packaging, interior parts, electronics housing and many more applications.”
nGen_LUX is the first special filament based on nGen and the second on colorFabb’s range of co-polyesters after XT-CF20, the carbon fibre enforced filament based on colorFabb_XT. Testing has taken place on a series of the most popular desktop printers on the market inside colorFabb’s print lab. colorFabb lists the Prusa i3, the Stacker S2 and S4, the Lulzbot TAZ 6 and Mini, the Robo R2 and C2, the Ultimaker range, and the Mass Portal Pharaoh, as printers to successfully support the nGen_LUX filament, though adds most platforms with a heated bed do.
colorFabb will debut the nGen_LUX filament, and showcase an array of parts made with its latest material, from Stand H39 at TCT Show. The company will also be exhibiting parts printed on the Blackbelt 3D Printer – colorFabb being the official materials supplier to Blackbelt.
