Clockwise from top left: Dana McCallum, Sophie Jones, Dr Nicola Jones, Martine van der Ent and Nora Toure.
Earlier this year I wrote about the experience of being a woman in additive manufacturing, particularly at industry events where the gender gap is often at its most evident. In a positive twist, it was great to hear from women, and men, from the industry, speaking of their experiences and more importantly about what more can be done to overcome these issues.
One of those conversations led me to Nora Toure, Founder of Women in 3D Printing, a group dedicated to supporting women in the AM industry. The group, along with fellow female-led organisation Cyant, hosts a series of established industry events called #3DTalk, aimed at bringing together female thought leaders and experts in a panel session setting to discuss a given industry topic.
Here at TCT, we are increasingly conscious of delivering more female-led content in our output, whether magazines or conferences and we are pleased to announce that the UK's first #3DTalk event will be held at this year’s TCT Show at the NEC, Birmingham. This free panel session and networking reception will focus on “Materials - A Driver in Advancing AM” and discuss advancements, impact on industry and what’s next.
Led by myself and Nora, our esteemed speakers include:
Dana McCallum, Carbon
Dana McCallum has a history in manufacturing, beginning her career in injection moulding and 3D printing and joining Carbon in May 2015. Dana is now Head of Production Partnerships where she leads Carbon’s Partnership Program for design firms, service bureaus and contract manufacturers who produce end use parts for their customers. Dana is Vice President on the Board of Directors of the Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG). She is also an active member of Women in Manufacturing (WiM) and is the Director for WiM's California chapter.
Sophie Jones, Added Scientific
Sophie Jones is General Manager at Added Scientific, a spin-out of the University of Nottingham, helping companies exploit additive manufacturing technology. With five years in the additive manufacturing sector, helping companies to understand additive manufacturing and building business cases for technology adoption, Sophie has a deep knowledge of the AM industry and applications of the technology.
Dr Nicola Jones, LPW Technology
Dr Nicola Jones has spent 25 years within high-tech sectors, working in the engineering, energy and manufacturing industries. In her role of Marketing Manager for LPW Technology, Nicola is currently focusing on the innovative end to end solutions that LPW has designed to complement its high-quality metal powders specifically for additive manufacturing. A PhD Chemistry graduate of The University of Manchester, Nicola’s research centred on metal oxide surface reactivity.
Martine van der Ent, DSM, Somos
With over 10 years of experience in the coating, composite and Additive Manufacturing materials industry, Martine van der Ent, European Sales Director Somos recently joined the Somos team in June 2017. Her people-oriented approach to Additive Manufacturing provides an engaging environment that creates wider business perspectives for the Somos customers. As the former president of the Dutch Composites Association, she helped to promote the benefits of composite technology and discuss innovation policy in the Netherlands.
The panel session will take place on 26th September on the TCT Tech Stage at 3.15pm followed by a networking drinks reception for all attendees. We encourage everyone, no matter your gender or background, to join us for what promises to be an engaging discussion on one of the industry's most exciting areas.
