Back in 2012 Uformia ran their successful Kickstarter campaign for their 3D modelling software designed specifically for direct 3D printing. Their various software packages have become integral to many industrial 3D printing design processes but in the 18 months since launch, some of the Uformia crowd have been working on a wholly consumer 3D printing experience.
With one of the nicest websites in the industry, the Uformit platform has launched to give the consumer the chance to tailor incredibly intricate pieces from some of the world’s top designers, to their own bespoke needs and wishes.
Designers can chose what parameters they’d like to open up for the consumer to customise so as they feel as if they have ownership over beautiful designs that will only ever be made once. The software is easy to use for both designers and consumers, consumers merely have to adjust the parameters set by the designer for their own creation.
Uformit’s main production partner is i.materialise and the material selection for their goods matches that of i.materialise; from white polyamide to über glossy 14k gold. This partnership should ensure the quality of Uformit’s goods is top notch and that the service is as seamless as possible for the consumer.
One of the products available exclusively to Uformit is a customisable version of Joshua Harker’s 21st Centruy Self-Portrait. The original mask from the 3D printing artist, who spoke at last year’s TCT show, was based on a CT scan and biometric data of Josh’s skull and face coupled with his usual latticework aesthetic. Working with the Uformit platform Josh has been able to allow the user to upload their own face data and adjust the width and frequency of the filigree to get their own personalised 21st Century Portrait.
Though Uformit is just getting up and running the backing of an excellent and established back-end software package coupled with some big name designers already using the platform AND an thoroughbread production partner should mean a fairly rapid ascension to becoming one of the 3D printing design sites to visit.
