The new centre will focus on providing solutions to Siemens' energy businesses
Global engineering company Siemens and UK-based metal additive manufacturing company Materials Solutions have officially opened their first advanced manufacturing centre in the U.S.
The new site, located in Orlando, Florida, will focus on providing solutions to Siemens’ energy businesses with what is believed to be a unique offering of design, manufacturing, robotics, rapid prototyping, scanning, digital tools and on-site metal additive manufacturing. Materials Solutions will also be deploying its 10-plus years of AM expertise to provide additive services to the innovation centre and external customers.
The 17,000 sq. ft. centre is said to be equipped with the latest manufacturing and inspection technologies to enable faster solutions and the creation of new, advanced components and digital solutions.
“This centre is unique, bringing together a multitude of our innovative processes under one roof,” said Tim Holt, COO of Siemens Gas and Power. “The combination of these competencies, with the 12 years of experience in metal additive that Materials Solutions brings, provides us with a distinctive capability to support the development of holistic additive solutions/services to our customers in our energy business, as well as in high-performance industries such as aerospace, automotive and others.”
Siemens acquired a majority stake in Materials Solutions back in 2016 and later invested £27 million into a new Worcester, UK-based additive manufacturing smart factory which opened last year. The 4,500 square metre facility is enabling the company to expand its capacity to 50 AM machines, including one of the first EOS M 300-4 systems, which will produce high-end serial parts for Siemens Power and Gas and customers in aerospace, automotive, motorsport, and other industrial sectors.
