Rolls-Royce places purchase order with Norsk Titanium for 3D printed titanium part

Norsk Titanium has received a purchase order from Rolls-Royce for a titanium part that could be deployed across current civil aerospace engine programmes.

The structural part has been additively manufactured with Norsk's proprietary Rapid Plasma Deposition technology in Ti-6Al-4V. It was printed at Norsk's Technology Center in Norway, and will be machined in Germany.

Norsk is now approved as a supplier of parts for Rolls-Royce development activities, and will work with Rolls-Royce to consider potential future application of RPD technology following the development of this structural titanium component.

“This order represents an important step forward in our relationship with Rolls-Royce,” said Fabrizio Ponte, President and CEO of Norsk Titanium. “It demonstrates both the maturity of our RPD® technology and our ability to work within an established aerospace engine supply chain. We believe this phase of exploratory work creates a foundation for identifying additional development opportunities over time.”

The Rolls-Royce purchase order is the latest industrial application of Norsk's RPD technology. The likes of Airbus, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman are all working with Norsk to develop and manufacture end-use components.
