Specter Aerospace is to leverage VulcanForms' additive manufacturing capacity for the production of 'airbreathing hypersonic weapons' at scale.
In response to Congressional, Department of War and mission partners' demand for next-generation hypersonic munitions and the Administration's leadership in rebuilding the American industrial base, the two companies have formed a strategic partnership.
The partnership, the two companies say, will provide the US with the capability to securely and economically scale the manufacturing and all-up-round (AUR) integration of low-cost hypersonic munitions, interceptors and cruise missiles for critical national security requirements.
Specter Aerospace and VulcanForms have an existing relationship in which 3D printing is said to have enabled faster design cycles, a more resilient supply chain, lower costs, faster routes to field testing, and operational integration. This extension. of the partnership will transition 'years of successful development into one of the nation's most advanced full-rate production facilities.' While previously the partnership leveraged the production-ready facilities of both companies to build a dedicated, long-term manufacturing operation, they will now set about developing a nationwide site evaluation for the future production facility.
"Specter has spent nearly a decade building airbreathing hypersonic missiles and targets in collaboration with the Department of War," said Specter Aerospace CEO Felipe Gomez del Campo. "Today, in response to the urgency of delivering hypersonic munitions to the U.S. Joint Force to deter our adversaries, Specter is partnering with VulcanForms to build America's first dedicated hypersonic manufacturing capacity from the ground up to deliver affordable and lethal hypersonic weapons to fighter aircraft and joint operations."
"The Defense Industrial Base 2.0 must be resilient. VulcanForms is unique because it serves all industries, which has allowed us to learn and share faster with our customers. Partnerships that win embrace physical AI and leverage lessons from commercial industries. Our north star is to bridge the digital and physical worlds," added VulcanForms Executive Vice President Matthew Rose.
