Origin One.
Origin has unveiled its Origin One additive manufacturing system ahead of RAPID + TCT in Detroit this week.
The company has also revealed footwear brand, ECCO is among its early access customers, while DSM has become the latest company to join its open materials network.
Based in California, Origin came out of stealth last November, announcing a modular resin-based 3D printing platform was to follow. At its first additive trade show as an exhibitor, Origin is showcasing the mid-level format of its 3D printing unit which boasts a 192 x 108 x 350 mm build volume. The machine is said to monitor polymerisation data and automatically optimise process conditions in order to achieve parts that are accurate and consistent.
Powered by the company’s programmable photopolymerisation (P3) process, the Origin One has been developed on the back of Origin's ambition to enable mass production with additive technology. The platform is supplemented by an open materials network, which last week welcomed DSM’s chemical expertise to add to the work already being done by BASF and Henkel.
Orders for the platform are now being taken, with shipping set to commence before the end of the year. But Origin has already delivered the platform to a select few customers, including automotive OEMs, contract manufacturers, and governmental departments too.

Among those early uses of the technology has been ECCO, with whom Origin has partnered with to develop a ‘new approach’ to manufacturing footwear. The footwear company has previously explored the use of German RepRap machines to print customised midsoles in silicone materials, and has now installed an Origin One unit at its development centre in Denmark, harnessing BASF’s Ultracur3D photopolymer, which was launched shortly after Origin announced itself to market six months ago.
Origin is this week going one further with the official launch of its additive manufacturing hardware, and some significant revelations around its user and material networks.
“After coming out of stealth late last this year, we are excited to unveil our technology and expanded ecosystem at RAPID + TCT,” Chris Prucha, Origin founder and CEO, told TCT. “We will show how an open approach to additive manufacturing results in the throughput, materials, and scalability that exceeds the expectations of the industry.
“With the addition of DSM to our network, we’re enabling an even broader set of chemistries to our customers.”
