MakerBot Amazon
Following on from the news that Amazon have launched a 3D printing section on their US site, it was only a matter of time before MakerBot started selling directly on there. The reason being that Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, was an early investor into the Brooklyn-based desktop 3D printing company.
The MakerBot printers have been available for some time on the world's largest online store, however those have all been through reputable resellers, not directly from MakerBot or any of the other leading desktop 3D companies themselves and without a dedicated '3D Printing' section.
Bre and co will launch on Amazon with their most popular printer, the Replicator 2. They are the first of the desktop 3D printing big hitters to sell directly on Amazon and then therefore directly on the 3D Printing section.
“We are excited to see Amazon embracing 3D printing and devoting an online store to the technology,” noted Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “Being a part of Amazon takes 3D printing and the MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer to a whole new level, and reaches a much broader consumer market. We’re pretty excited about this opportunity.”
Some sceptics are suggesting that Amazon are seeing a quick buck by launching the 3D Printing shop, but they’ll only make a quick buck if demand is there and if demand is there it means the industry is growing.
