Nokia’s Lumia series has always been about personalisation, whether that’s in the form of creating your tiles on the Windows OS or picking one of the many varieties of interchangeable shells. 3D printing your own shells was always the next logical step.
Inspired by Makerbot’s Thingiverse the Finnish mobile giant released the CAD files for their phones allowing users to adapt and personalize at will. Makerbot then inspired by Nokia started printing off the shells to showcase the Replicator 2’s aptitude.
This latest development then comes as no surprise. Nokia and Makerbot have teamed up to bring us the “world’s first live social 3D printing experience” at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. There will be two Replicator 2s on the Nokia stand printing personalised cases a-go-go.
To promote the event Nokia are running a simultaneous twitter competition allowing anybody the chance to win a personalized case and phone.
