Impossible Objects raises $40m to increase production of composite additive manufacturing systems

Impossible Objects has closed a Series B funding round worth $40 million to scale its Composite-Based Additive Manufacturing (CBAM) technology and meet 'growing customer demand.'

Inflection Equity led the financing, with participation from Aaron Wealth Management, OCA Ventures, Impact Capital and Excell Partners. The financing will be used to increase production of Impossible Objects' industrial additive manufacturing systems, expand customer deployments and build out the service and commercial organisation required to 'support a growing installed base.'

CBAM technology utilises carbon-fibre reinforced materials to produce strong, lightweight parts at volume for applications traditionally served by processes such as CNC machining and injection moulding. Since launching the CBAM 25 system in early 2025, the company has secured five orders and deployed the system at the facilities of the U.S. Air Force, the National Institute for Aviation Research, the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center and Rochester Institute of Technology. The technology is included in the U.S. Air Force Technology Roadmap.

Impossible Objects has secured $20 million in U.S. government contracts and awards, with work through Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I and Phase II awards supporting the development of high-strength long-range drones. These drones are said to boast integrated wiring inside of additively manufactured parts.

Meanwhile, at U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal, CBAM technology is supporting the production of up to 10,000 drone bodies per month, with the CBAM 25 printing up to 25 layers per minute. Per Impossible Objects, the machine can produce composite parts with strength up to 200 MPa and 'minimal shrinkage and warpage.'

This funding will help us scale to meet that demand. We are proud to be at the forefront of creating the modern manufacturing supply chains that advanced economies need.”

This funding will help it scale to meet that demand.”

“The nature of warfare is changing as new technologies are deployed,” said Stephen Farmen, retired U.S. Army major general. “As a result, the defence industrial base needs new advanced manufacturing technologies that can deliver robust and flexible distributed production so we can get new technologies such as drone and counter-drone systems and repair parts to our warfighters faster, more flexibly and with radically shorter delivery timelines.”
