Spectroplast, Munich Medical Devices (MMD), and FIDENTIS have opened a shared Additive Manufacturing Hub in Munich.

The three organisations now share production, lab, and office spaces, and will move forward with the joint mission of making Munich a leading location for additive manufacturing in medical technology.

Between them, all three entities cover different materials and applications. MMD prints porous, bioactive series and patient-specific PEEK implants; Spectroplast prints medical-grade silicone, producing soft, skin-friendly parts that until now could only be made by moulding; and FIDENTIS, a Fraunhofer IGCV spin-off, prints several metal alloys in a single part to produce dental prosthetics at scale.

By sharing infrastructure, the companies hope to lower costs and ‘shorten the path from idea to approved product.’ An official opening was held earlier in October, with 80 guests – including researchers, physicians, investors, and customers – invited to hear from the leadership of the three organisations and discuss application opportunities.

“When we were looking for new premises, the question was: why do this alone? We work with different materials, but we face the same challenges, from quality systems and approvals to finding the right customers,” said Dr Stefan Leonhardt, co-founder and CEO of Munich Medical Devices. “A shared hub means shared infrastructure, shared knowledge and a shared network. The opening showed how much energy that creates.”

“Medical additive manufacturing is gaining real traction,” added Spectroplast CEO Maximilian Eils. “With new materials and processes, more and more applications are becoming feasible. Here in Munich, PEEK, silicone, and metal now come together under one roof. In practice, that means we solve regulatory questions together, learn from each other’s go-to-market experience and share best practices, so good ideas reach patients faster.”

“For a young company like ours, working next to partners who share the same mission – bringing 3D-printed products to market – is invaluable,” offered Dr-Ing Max Horn, co-founder and Managing Director of FIDENTIS. “And the opening was only the start: by regularly inviting customers, clinics, and universities into the hub, we want to drive the innovation our industry needs.”
