Zenith Tecnica expands EBM 3D printing capability under new ownership

Zenith Tecnica Limited has announced it has been acquired and is commencing the immediate expansion of its metal additive manufacturing (AM) capacity.

The New Zealand-based contract manufacturer, which specialises in supplying Electron Beam Melting (EBM) titanium parts to space, medical and other high-performance sectors, says the acquisition by former Amazon and Boeing executives Andrew Burgess and Blair Jordan will enable it to scale 'beyond the limits of its current manufacturing capacity'. The new owners plan to add another two EBM systems and move to a larger facility.

The deal was completed on June 18th. The new owners bring experience in aerospace production and global industrial operations including Boeing and Amazon’s low-earth orbit satellite programs, and highly regulated food and dairy production environments.

Prior to the acquisition, Zenith says the business had reached a point where its fleet of six EBM systems was at full capacity, driven by strong demand for parts from customers in aerospace such as Lanteris Space Systems' satellite and spaceflight programs, including NASA's Psyche mission; patient-specific orthopaedic implants and critical medical instruments; high-performance marine and other advanced manufacturing sectors.

Outgoing owner Heather Grace commented, “When I took ownership of Zenith after my tenure as General Manager, my goal was always to strengthen the business, continue to nurture and build our capable team, and ultimately transition it into the hands of owners who could drive its next stage of growth. I couldn't be happier with where the company stands today and the opportunities that lie ahead.”

The company says this acquisition marks the start of a 'significant expansion phase' to strengthen its position as 'one of the world's largest and most capable EBM manufacturing partners'.

Incoming Managing Director of Zenith Tecnica, Blair Jordan said, “Looking ahead, our goal is simple: focusing on scaling alongside our customers in a way that stays true to how we operate. That means continuing to invest in the capability behind the business, whether that is equipment, people, or floor space, so we can grow capacity without losing the speed and flexibility that our reputation has been built on.”
