Metal Powder Works appoints former Veeco Instruments Director of Operations as CCO

Metal Powder Works has appointed Dr Ahmed El Desouky as its Chief Operating Officer.

The company says El Desouky's arrival will strengthen its executive team as it moves into its next phase of production scale-up, customer qualification, and commercial growth across its metal powder and additive manufacturing platforms.

El Desouky holds a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and is a highly experienced metallurgist with 15 years of operations and advanced manufacturing leadership. Metal Powder Works believes his appointment will bring 'public-company operating discipline' and deep technical credibility in powder-based and additive manufacturing to the company.

His most recent role was Director of Operations, New Product Introduction at Veeco Instruments, where he led operations, quality, supply chain, and program management for Veeco's largest active development program. At Veeco, he established and scaled the company's additive manufacturing function from a two-person effort into a 'production-capable organisation.' Metal Powder Works suggests this experience will be 'directly applicable' to its own scale-up of powder production capacity and progression of customer and program qualifications.

As Chief Operating Officer, El Desouky will be tasked with overseeing a scale-up in manufacturing capacity, an improvement in production yield across the powder portfolio, and the build-out of the supply chain and operational infrastructure needed to support growing customer demand.

Metal Powder Works Managing Director John Barnes said: "Ahmed brings a rare combination of metallurgical depth and public-company operating experience to MPW. He has significant experience instilling the operating discipline that scaling businesses need. As we grow our production capacity and deepen customer qualifications, his experience is directly relevant to drive the operational maturity and profitability we need as we scale our patented DirectPowder technology. Ahmed's combination of operations across multiple industries with high-consequence products like semiconductor manufacturing combines a potent skillset of discipline, metallurgical expertise, and additive manufacturing experience."
